Closed-cell polyurethane foam insulation has been tested and is certified to be an air barrier at an application of 1-inch thickness. It is fully-adhered and does not allow air to flow around, behind or through the insulation system like open cell foam insulation. Total Air Leakage Control

The DOE has also shown that 15% of traditional insulation materials’ effectiveness is lost due to convection loops through and behind board and batt insulation systems. Polyurethane technology eliminates this by forming a fully adhered, seamless insulation and air barrier system. It can completely conform to a building cavity of any shape, sealing it thoroughly.

Environmentally Friendly - Energy Star Approved

Spray foam insulation does not contain HCFCs that are harmful to Earth's ozone layer, or off gas formaldehyde—a potentially harmful volatile organic compound. Polyurethane spray foam insulation has about twice the R-value per inch of traditional batt insulation, making it more energy efficient in a smaller space.

Increased Structural Integrity


Spray-applied closed-cell polyurethane spray foam is the only insulation material proven to add structural integrity throughout the wall system, according to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Center. Tests conducted there show spray foam insulation between wood- and steel-stud wall panels increased rack and shear strength two to three times compared with standard stick-built components with glass fiber insulation.

Flood Resistant Insulation

In addition to rack and shear, closed-cell polyurethane sray foam is classified as an acceptable flood-resistant material by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Reduced Mold

Mold requires three things to grow: moisture, warm temperatures and a food source. Polyurethane spray foam insulation eliminates condensing surfaces, reduces the potential to accumulate moisture, has no nutritional value and is not considered a food source for mold.

Cost Effective Building Materials

Sprayed foam materials cost more than traditional fiberglass batt insulation. However, since sprayed foam forms both an insulation and an air barrier, it can be cost competitive with batt insulation because it eliminates the steps for air-tightness detailing (such as caulking, applying housewrap and vapor barrier, and taping joints). As a result, it also reduces construction time and the number of specialized contractors.
